On October 1st, the world will observe the second annual International Coffee Day. On that day, the seventy-seven Member States of the International Coffee Organization (ICO) and dozens of coffee associations from around the globe will come together to celebrate the achievements of the industry. According to the ICO official website, “International Coffee Day is a global celebration of coffee’s journey from the farm to your local shop— an opportunity to honour the men and women who grow and harvest the coffee we love.”
Since our inception, UniTrak has had the privilege to work with coffee processors the world over. We know the challenges associated with producing the fine coffee products consumers the world over have all come to appreciate. In keeping with the spirit of International Coffee Day, UniTrak salutes all those in the coffee industry who help bring these great products to market.
As a recent blog highlighted, consumption of coffee is growing globally. However, tastes and preferences among consumers are shifting. While many consumers still buy traditional processed coffee and tea blends, an increasing number are buying specialty coffees and teas. In part, this trend has also been driven by the increasing popularity of home brewing technologies. For coffee producers, this means a shift towards satisfying the growing demand for blended and flavoured products, as well as that for newer single-serve package formats such as pods or capsules
Conveying Coffee: UniTrak Equipment Solutions
UniTrak has helped many producers of coffee products to surmount the challenges associated with conveying coffee. Depending upon the production process employed, we have a number of equipment options that address the needs of coffee producers.
For continuous processing operations, TipTrakTM bucket conveyors and Powderflight aeromechanical conveyors are the preferred equipment choices. TipTrakTM units successfully service applications involving soluble coffee, green coffee beans, ground coffee, whole roasted beans, and tea, while Powderflight aeromechanicals are servicing applications involving ground coffee, whole roasted bean and tea. Both TipTrakTM and Powderflight conveyors are available with a range of options that address challenges such as product dusting, abrasion, and cleaning.
For producers using intermittent or batch processing operations, UniFlex flexible screw conveyors are an excellent equipment choice for servicing applications involving ground coffee.
Producers who are receiving their coffee material in large bags or Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBC) will benefit from UniTrak’s Bagstander bulk bag unloader. UniTrak Bagstanders ensure zero leakage and safety for operators during any unloading operation, and a factory-installed vibrator can help ensure complete, waste-free emptying.
