The Customer
Leading international engineering group in England, manufacturing precision components and assemblies for the aerospace, industrial gas turbine, specialist automotive, medical orthopaedic and petrochemical industries.
The Scenario
Manually emptying 50 lb sacks of fine but heavy powder into a 300-litre mixer, 1.5 metres above the floor.
The Challenge
UniTrak Powderflight Limited was approached for a solution to numerous problems and potential hazards, including:
• Potential personal-injury risk
• Materials wastage from spills around the mixer
• Inconsistent mixing results
• Un-wetted lumps of powder often left in mixer after discharge
• Difficulties in sack dumping at this height made the mixing process slow
• Possible mixer blade entrapment from direct open-top feeding
The Solution
Replace existing equipment with an M75 Powderflight Aeromechanical Conveyor, with large bag dump hopper.
The Results
Feeding was faster, simpler, safer, cleaner. With the bag supported by the hopper shelf and safety grill, emptying into the ergonomically-designed large bag dump hopper created less dust and spillage.
After passing through the Powderflight, the powders mixed far more rapidly, and a more consistent slurry was produced.
Minimal material remains in the self-emptying unit, allowing easy start up, when next batch is required.
The customer has since purchased another M75 Powderflight aero-mechanical conveyor for their second mixing line.
